Keeping your solar panels clean

Brian comes to the rescue!

I have been trying to find someone who could wash and clean my solar panels but to no avail.
Then yesterday it struck me that we have a fantastic steeple jack in our group. I asked him if he would be willing to give it a go. Armed with very long ladders, a HA-RA window washer and cleaning product (all totally Eco friendly) he set off to tackle a job no one else wanted to do.

Within an hour the job was done and the sun could shine again. The dirt that came off it was amazing and the difference between the panels washed and those that were not made me realize how important it was to do. Thank you so much Brian you have now got another string to your bow.

Probably the best PV solar panel cleaner in town!

Eco Architects

We are fortunate in West Bridgford to have a number of architects with an interest in low-energy and sustainable refurbishment and new build projects.

For our own project (see Tina and Richard's eco-retrofit on the case studies page), we are benefitting from the expertise of Steve Day of Fabric Architects and Gil Schalom of Gil Schalom Design.

If you are thinking about an extension, new build or eco-refurb project, why not come along to the West Bridgford Summer Gathering and have a chat to Gil. On the same day (and just a 5 minute walk down the road) Steve Day is running a monthly open studio session - here is his invitation:

"It’s easy to think that the only solution to needing more living space is to move house, but with the help of an architect you could find new, fresh and exciting ways to live in your home rather than move.

Steve Day of Fabric Architects understands that everyone has a dream project for their home, so if you are thinking of altering or extending your home whether it be a grand design or something smaller we can help you make the most out of your home. We are holding our first monthly ‘Open Studio’ session on Saturday 16th April and 14th May the following month at our offices in West Bridgford between 10am-3pm, providing a chance for homeowners to get some expert advice to help make their home development dreams a reality. Many people don’t realise the benefit of using an architect to get the most from their project, so come along and have a chat and see what can be achieved.

To take advantage of this opportunity to ‘ask the architect’ contact Steve Day on 0115 977 5020 to pre-book your appointment."

Make your own furniture!

You may have seen "John's Rustic Furniture" at the West Bridgford farmer's market (every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the month).

John makes all sorts of interesting pieces, and if you'd like to get skilled up yourself, he also runs workshops:

"Enjoy 2 days creating your own bentwood chair to take home. Made from coppiced willow and hazel using traditional methods. Join a small group at Yew Tree Cottage garden in the hidden village of Thrumpton. £195 for 2 days tuition, all materials and tools supplied, homemade cake, tea and refreshments throughout the day.

1st and 3rd weekends in the spring and summer months.
